A note from Joe

The Process

Arthur’s Working Notes was my first published book. It was not the first book I had spent time trying to write.

Much of the time went into distilling ideas into a precise, functional form, rather than waiting for the ideas themselves to arrive.

This book is special to me. I want to share some of what went into it: excerpts, thoughts, notes, and screen grabs of the scraps.

I’m hoping this page will also help me work out a better way to write the next book. I have a style of writing I prefer. Keeping track of it all has been another matter.

I’ve jumped between editors, lost notebook pages, and had pieces of the manuscript spread across three different computers. Some of it was on my phone. A real noob way to write a book. Maybe sharing the scraps will help someone else trying to write one, too.
